What It Means to be AAHA Accredited.
The American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA) is an international association of more than 42,000 veterinary care providers who treat companion animals. Established in 1933 by leaders in the veterinary profession, AAHA is well known for its high standards in veterinary practices and quality pet care. They also promote those standards within the veterinary profession and to the public. The association develops benchmarks of excellence, business practice standards, informative publications and educational programs designed to help companion animal hospitals thrive.
AAHA believes in setting "The Standard of Veterinary Excellence." Throughout the
Association's 75 years, its mission has remained the same:
- Enhance the abilities of veterinarians to provide quality medical care to companion animals.
- Enable veterinarians to successfully conduct their practices and maintain their facilities with high standards of excellence.
- Meet the public's needs as they related to the delivery of small animal veterinary medicine.
Today, AAHA serves approximately 6,000 practice teams in the United States and Canada that are comprised of more than 40,000 individual veterinary care providers. Approximately 3,000 veterinary hospitals voluntarily participate in the AAHA hospital evaluation program. Consultants regularly visit these hospitals to ensure compliance with AAHA's standards for services and facilities.
AAHA is the only organization that accredits animal hospitals throughout the U.S. and Canada. AAHA-accredited hospitals voluntarily choose to be evaluated on 900 standards in the following areas:
